WELCOME TO ALPHA-JURIS CHAMBERS LIBRARY

Objectives: The purpose of the library is to provide bibliographic, physical and intellectual access to recorded knowledge and information consistent with contemporary research needs and responsibilities of the parent institution. – Alpha-Juris Chambers. Also to assist in the advancement of the chambers Continuing Legal Education and aid the dissemination and exchange of legal information important to the progress of Law.

Library Services: Much of the services of the library revolve around the constant identification, collection, organization, retrieval and dissemination of information considered essential for the corporate interest of the chambers. We offer the following services in the library:

Reference Services: One of the characteristics of the library is its emphasis on immediacy. This character implies an up-to-date collection of reference materials including law reports, conference papers, and other ephemeral materials. The scope of reference services provided in the library is very wide and varies from given factual answer to direct questions, locating specific facts or searching the literature available.

Current Awareness Services: The aim of these services is to keep users aware of the latest developments in the field of law without scanning wide variety of information sources. This is achieved through the following means:

• Telephone calls
• Recording individual reference and forwarding
• Periodic routing
• Duplicating contents of periodicals.

Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI): This is closely related to routing of new materials to lawyers. Its significance lies in the fact that it is a personal service tailored to meet the needs of the Researcher as recorded in his or her profile.

Library Automation: To compliment the services of the library, the installation of a library software package is in the pipeline, for effective record keeping which includes serial control, circulation, cataloguing, acquisitions and collection of statistics as well as information retrieval, simply aimed at making information readily available to users.
